Close your eyes. Imagine 10 people in a closed room. Now imagine 100. Does it feel like a crowd already? Now imagine 1000 people. In fact, you can have a decent concert with this crowd and make a profit. But you’d need a much bigger room.
One thousand is incomparable to 10,000, let alone 100,000. Or 1 million. 🤯
So, let’s examine this fact.
As of 2023, Nigeria's internet user base has grown significantly, with approximately 60% of its 220 million population actively using the internet. This equates to over 132 million users.
Let’s imagine that 2 million of these people are learning or have digital skills.
If 100,000 of these people are learning or have the same skills as you, can you imagine your position on the list? Now, that’s Nigeria alone. When you combine other African countries, you could be competing with 299,999 others. The reason you don’t see all the 2 million digitally skilled Nigerians in one place is because the 130 million others are much more dominant. So, you’d see more unserious, give-away-waiting users online. Truth is, it doesn’t represent our true state of skills. Whether these skilled people are competent that’s another story.
And that’s where you come in.
You want to be 1 in a million, so your work and portfolio has to be irresistible. Put in extra effort. Work 1 extra hour. Go the extra mile. Reduce yourself to a student of knowledge who’d do anything to please his master (your brain). Treat competence like it’s the only thing that humans care about. The internet is not a blank space. For everything you do, think in data, so you can be more impatient with taking action.
Fun fact: There are actually 14.5 million digitally skilled Nigerians out of the 132 million internet users. Think about it.
